A God of Giving

This might be a little short but i woke up with this and i think it works.

Our God is a god of giving. He lavishes his love and kindness. He gives us everything. Even every spiritual blessing he gave to Christ, Eph 1:3. When i woke up this morning though, i thought,"what if God serves himself?"
Now i know that the concept of the trinity is a tricky idea to wrap a finite head around but if i look at the attributes that only individual parts of the trinity posses it makes me think that they are shared or given to one another. for example, the holy spirit is omnipresent but not necessarily all knowing. However the spirit knows our needs and provides for us in our troubles. How? because the father and the Son give the knowledge needed. The whole system seems like a kind of symbiotic relationship to me.

Now this does not mean that all three are separate Gods but that each part of the trinity works together under one consciousness of God.

I think this would have to be a necessity for an all-knowing-powerful-loving God because it allows God to worship himself without idolizing and creating deadly pride. I think that God can look at himself and say, " boy   my spirit and my son work so hard they are worthy of praise." with the other two saying the same thing. This interesting system creates a God that can be humbled in his own presence while still having the infinite power that could rip apart any normal singular spirit.

In conclusion, God is in the perfect relationship of worship and service. He serves himself because he loves himself and that love is now directed towards us in the Son that he gave. His power is amazing and his love is unbounded. He is a good God and he shows us that everyday through his service to us by serving himself.

p.s. please double check everything that i have said and be quick to point out my mistakes. I would rather have you point out my mistakes than have a millstone around my neck.

  1. I appreciate the way you give us an open invitation to your waking thoughts. (Mine are usually just about getting to the bathroom before Lucas jumps in the shower! )

This is what I heard: I think you are describing the triunity of God as a symbiotic relationship. And God's love ( i.e. wisdom, delight, counsel, comfort, servant-leadership) toward us is a reflection or expression of the way His Triune Being operates within itself.

Makes me think about the fact that love is something that can only be expressed in relationship. ANd we are only capable of love because he loved us ... first. The fact that God IS love (1 John 4:7-20) expresses that God is inherently about relationship.

And, to get back to your point, love/service/worship is perhaps at the heart of the way the whole of God (Father, Son, Spirit) operates.

Makes me wonder if there are verses that point to whether the Triune parts worship/serve each other. Hmmmm.

    Interesting thought, Ty.

  2. Interesting. I think that much of what you describe here is also built into creation in a beautiful way. Consider the inter dependencies of species to one another. They are in made of the same substance, but also have different roles and reliance on the other. To a lesser degree the picture of how the planets are held in orbit and are dependent on each other and the central star to travel its appointed path.

I also believe that there are many scriptural references to the ubiquity of relationship, which I think our American individualism is difficult to live out. For example, the church, family, and even corporations are examples of dependence and interconnectedness.

The only theological challenge to what you describe is that most theologians would agree that each of the members of the trinity are considered "the whole God". It would likely that they would take issue with the assertion that each part contains less than all of Gods knowledge or power. This being said, they would agree that Jesus chose to lay down some of his Godly attributes during the incarnation so there is a historical precedence for persons of the trinity to chose to lay down certain aspects of their nature.

    Great Stuff.
